BOWEN THERAPY

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a holistic, hands-on technique that works on the body’s connective tissue (Fascia)
to facilitate healing and promote self-regulation. It involves gentle, specific movements performed
over key areas of the body, stimulating the nervous system and encouraging the body’s natural
healing processes. Bowen treatment is unique in that it can be received fully clothed, given to new born babies, aged and frail, acute injuries as well as chronic disorders, with rarely any discomfort experienced. We have to thank Tom Bowen for bringing this wonderful therapy to us along with the ease which it is given and received with gentleness ~ yet with so much power!

The Bowen Technique is a specific series of muscle and connective tissue movements designed to
treat a wide range of problems and injuries. It addresses every system in the body, internal organs systems as well as musculoskeletal structure. These gentle powerful moves send neurological impulses to the brain, which then is given time to process and feed impulses back to realign the body.

Bowen assists in accessing the body’s natural feedback systems that monitor’s the state of each
muscle, therefore releasing tension within the muscles. Our body’s cell holds memories of events including sites of injuries. Bowen assists in removing any energy blocks due to emotional issues, which are often accumulated in physical body causing tension, pain and dis-ease.
Bowen technique provides a powerful stimulus to the circulation in the joints. The muscles attached around the joint will be relaxed, thus taking pressure off the joint and encouraging healing.

How it Works - Fascia Focus:

Bowen Therapy primarily works with the fascia, a network of connective tissue that envelopes
muscles, organs and other structures.

Gentle movements:
Gentle, rolling movements performed over specific points on the body.

Nervous System Stimulation:
These movements are believed to stimulate the body’s mechanoreceptors, which are nerve endings in the skin, muscles, and joints.

Self-healing:
The stimulation is thought to activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms, allowing it to restore
balance and address imbalances.

Potential Benefits:

Pain Relief:

Bowen Therapy is often used to relieve pain, especially in musculoskeletal and
neurological conditions.

Improved Flexibility and Mobility:

By working with the fascia, it can help to improve flexibility and range of motion.

Stress Reduction:

The gentle nature of the therapy can promote relaxation and help to reduce stress.

Emotional Release:

Some individuals report emotional release during or after Bowen therapy.

Muscle Release:

Bowen therapy can help release tight and contracted muscles.

Enhancing Sleep:

Promoting deep relaxation, calming the nervous system (shifting from "fight-or-flight" to

"rest & repair")

Conditions Often Treated:

Musculoskeletal Issues:

Back pain, neck pain, sciatica, sports injuries, fibromyalgia and more.

Neurological Conditions:

Some individuals with neurological issues may find relief from
Bowen therapy.

Stress and Anxiety:

The relaxing nature of the therapy can be helpful for managing stress
and anxiety.

Other conditions:

Asthma and chronic fatigue.
